When illness confronts a person, it can also lead to their feeling alone. A person might even feel as though they have been abandoned by God as they deal with the reality of the sickness and the changes it might bring to their life and their family. God understands this reality in the human condition.
When Jesus ministered on earth He spent a great deal of his time healing the sick. Christ used his miracles to draw people to greater faith. Christ continues this work in the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. In this sacrament a person is given the pledge of Christ’s continued presence in the midst of their suffering and pain.
While the priest prays for the physical healing of the person, the grace of the sacrament goes beyond physical healing to strengthen the soul and preserve the person from despair through an outpouring of hope.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available at any time by appointment for anyone who desires God’s healing presence and especially for those who are seriously or chronically ill or anticipating surgery. Please call one of our priests at 215-855-1311 to express your desire to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
